Tour overview Etna Summit Craters Trek
Embark on the ultimate Etna adventure: a 6-hour guided trek to the summit craters at 3,300 metres above sea level. Departing from Piano Provenzana on the quieter north side of the volcano, this expedition takes you through some of the most dramatic volcanic landscapes in Europe.
The journey begins with a thrilling 4x4 ride from 1,800m to 2,900m, traversing rugged lava fields and offering panoramic views across eastern Sicily. From there, your licensed volcanological guide leads the ascent on foot through loose volcanic terrain, past steaming fumaroles and fresh lava flows.
At the summit, you will stand on the edge of Etna's active craters, witnessing the raw power of one of the world's most active volcanoes. The views stretch from the Aeolian Islands to the Calabrian coast on a clear day. After taking in the extraordinary scenery, you descend back to 2,900m before the 4x4 returns you to Piano Provenzana.
